Welcome to Peterborough, it says here! But we do mean it. We welcome anyone who has shown a degree of confidence in our efforts so certain that they are willing to spend time and money travelling here. Judging by the number of registrations it seems that the recent trend toward larger conventions will be maintained. In many respects this is a good thing, but does hold one danger. As the crowd grows bigger it is more difficult for every-one to meet every one else, and these meetings are one Of the most basic reasons for conventions. So, we would like to suggest that you take the trouble to meet each other, don't let's develop a split between new-comers and oldtimers. To this end convention badges, besides showing up gate-crashers, makes self- introduction easy, so wear them please.

To newcomers we would like to extend a special welcome to this kind of fannish activity. May you enjoy it as much as we always do. Don't be afraid to join us. You must like SF or you wouldn't be here, and if you are then. you're a fan and one of us. To oldtimers: welcome back. The usual hitches will undoubtedly arise, for which we beg the usual indulgences, and to every-one, in case you haven't got the message. We hope your time and money are well spent.

Lastly, I know you would wish to give a word of praise and thanks to the people who have worked during the past months to make this convention possible. So, may I take this opportunity to say, from myself as well as all convention members, thank you to, Marcus Ashby, Dave Barber, Ken Cheslin, Ethel Lindsay, George Locke, Norman'Sherlock, Ken Slater, and Arthur Thomson.
